Nutella spread was initially created as a solution for the shortage of cocoa supplies in 1946 following the World War II (Nutella: A Story of Love and Passion 2021). Ferrero made the ‘Giandujot’ paste out of hazelnuts, sugar and small bit of rare cocoa and moulded it into a loaf. The ‘Giandujot’ paste was then developed into ‘SuperCrema’ (the predecessor to Nutella) that could be spread easily.
